The team of the 19th Doctors Tour completed
65 major hand surgeries and 8 minor procedures, on over 70 people able to
reuse or have improved use of their hands, elbows, shoulders and arms.
This is the largest number of surgeries we have ever had on one trip!
For the operations in the northern Tamil Nadu and southern Andhra ministry
areas, over 100 patients were screened after being brought to the clinic
by the evangelists and elders of these areas. Although the evangelist
staff is smaller in the southern most districts, 15 of the 22 patients who
were operated on were brought by them and the others came through word of
mouth or being cared for in a home for children afflicted by polio.
The patients in the central Andhra Pradesh area came through word of mouth
as this is the third set of operations there. We are working on a plan to
have Southern Asia Christian College graduates in surrounding village
hospitals to bring patients from their churches to Vijayawada, the hub of
this region.
"To God be the glory!" Never a truer word was spoken as we see the witness
of these operations and look forward to the seeds planted in the hearts of
patients and their families nurturing into an acceptance of Jesus as Lord
and Savior.
The hard work and sacrifice of the surgeons is remarkable, as they work
throughout long days to do complicated and difficult surgeries at the same
level as they would back in the US. Our poorest of the poor patients can
never forget the strength of the witness of seeing such senior surgeons
willingly giving of their time and skill to the lame, the weak and the
sick so far from their own homes! We praise God He has made it so!!
